A new Cuban bar and restaurant has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Called Casta's Cuban Rum Bar & Cerveza Garden, the new addition is located at 1121 New Hampshire Ave. NW in West End.
The bar and restaurant, which opened on Aug. 2, features Cuba-inspired murals painted by a local artist in its beer garden.
The menu includes small plates of traditional Cuban turnovers filled with roasted pork and glazed ham, chicken, beef or spinach and cheese. Classic Cuban sandwiches are served, as well as green plantain soup and Cuban chicken soup. The cocktail list includes mojitos and Cuba libres, and there is a cigar menu as well.
With a 4.5-star rating out of four reviews on Yelp so far, the new bar is on its way to developing a local fan base.
Chuan Q., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Aug. 9, wrote, "The food tastes amazing, and the ingredients are fresh. The chefs didn't overly season the food to bring out the freshness. The presentation is thoughtful as well. The churro melted in my mouth."
Yelper Cam H. added, “All of the food I've tried is great. Don't skip the ceviche or black bean hummus dip. Everything is made fresh. The drinks are strong and not something you will find anywhere else. It has the widest selection of rum I've seen in the District.”
Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Casta's Cuban Rum Bar & Cerveza Garden is open from 4 p.m.-midnight on Sunday-Thursday and 4 p.m.-2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
