Hungry? A new neighborhood Southern spot has you covered. Called The Ryerson, the fresh addition is located at 698 Nostrand Ave. in Crown Heights.
Chef Sean Underwood, formerly of Columbus Circle fine-dining establishment Jean-Georges, designed the menu at The Ryerson, which "draws inspiration from Southern cuisine, modern cooking, and celebrates seasonality by utilizing locally sourced ingredients," according to the business's website.
The kitchen serves up small and large plates of updated comfort food, like deviled eggs with blue crab, mac and cheese with pecan pesto, étouffée with homemade andouille and pork spareribs with red cabbage slaw. Be sure to check out the house special: fried chicken in half or whole portions, with sides of mashed potatoes, collard greens and gravy.
The bar at The Ryerson serves draft beer, wine and 10 different signature cocktails made with Southern spirits like rye and corn whiskey. There's also a selection of mocktails, such as the homemade, non-alcoholic dry-hopped lemonade.
The new spot has proven popular thus far, with a five-star rating out of 24 reviews on Yelp.
Keunrak K., who was among the first Yelpers to review The Ryerson on July 7, wrote, "This is the best fried chicken I've had north of the Mason-Dixon line."
The Ryerson is open for dinner service from 5-10 p.m. on Sunday-Thursday and from 5-11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Its bar is currently open from 3 p.m. until late.
