A sumptuous new restaurant has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Called Animae, it's located on the ground floor of the luxury condo complex Pacific Gate by Bosa, at 969 Pacific Highway in Marina.
The upscale eatery is a creation of Puffer Malarkey Collective, whose co-founders are Brian Malarkey and Chris Puffer. Their previous endeavors include Searsucker, Herringbone and Herb & Wood, according to San Diego Magazine. At Animae, the entrees include roasted duck, glazed black cod and dry-age, bone-in ribeye steak. It also offers a variety of hot and cold plates, as well as craft cocktails and desserts.
With a four-star rating out of eight reviews on Yelp so far, the fresh arrival seems to be a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
Carlo M., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Sept. 21, wrote, "Delicious food, great atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great addition to the neighborhood. The menu is highly inspired by Pan Pacific cuisine. Very creative way to serve traditional dishes with a twist."
And Luis C. wrote, "Our server was Anthony, [who provided] very knowledgeable and amazing service. Staff was friendly. The ambience was like out of the movie, 'The Great Gatsby' — really unique and great vibes."
Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Animae is open from 6 p.m.–10 p.m. on Sunday-Thursday and 6 p.m.–11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
