A new seafood restaurant has debuted in the neighborhood. Located at 380 Canal St. in Tribeca, the new arrival is called Canal Street Oysters.
The oyster bar comes from Broome Street Hospitality, the group behind The East Pole and other restaurants around Manhattan. The new spot offers a raw bar and a dinner menu of seafood-focused entrees and sandwiches. Check out the selection of oysters, the shellfish towers (available in three sizes), the diver scallop ceviche with fermented pineapple, the squid ink paella for two and the tempura cod banh mi. There's also a full bar serving wine, beer and cocktails.
Canal Street Oysters can accommodate up to 300 guests, and both its main dining room and its second-floor Lantern Room are available for private events.
With a 3.5-star rating out of 13 reviews on Yelp, Canal Street Oysters is getting a mixed response from patrons, but it's still early days.
Mike C., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Sept. 16, wrote, "All I tried was the tempura cod banh mi and fries, which were very good, especially the perfectly crispy salty fries. I'll be back to try more."
Meanwhile, Yelper Erin R. noted, “When I ate here recently, I witnessed a manager yelling at a server because there was an issue with my fluke ceviche (it was missing the crispy skin). He was incredibly rude, and I find this unacceptable and unnecessary."
Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Canal Street Oysters is open from 4 p.m.–midnight on Monday–Thursday, 4 p.m.–1 a.m. on Friday, 3 p.m.–1 a.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m.–1 a.m. on Sunday.
