Wondering where Philadelphia's in-the-know crowd is eating and drinking? It's easy to spot lines out the door, but some underlying trends are harder to see.
We took a data-driven look at the question, using Yelp to discover which eateries have been getting extra notice this month.
To find out who made the list, we looked at Philadelphia businesses on Yelp by category and counted how many reviews each received. Rather than compare them based on number of reviews alone, we calculated a percentage increase in reviews over the past month, and tracked businesses that consistently increased their volume of reviews to identify statistically significant outliers compared to past performance.

Shaking Seafood
Open since August 2019, this Cajun/Creole spot, which offers seafood and more, is trending compared to other businesses categorized as "Seafood" on Yelp.
Citywide, seafood spots saw a median 1.5% increase in new reviews over the past month, but Shaking Seafood saw a substantial 107.7% increase, maintaining a solid 4.5-star rating throughout.
It's not the only trending outlier in the seafood category: Vernick Fish has seen a 43.3% increase in reviews, and Alpen Rose and Relish have seen 18.2 and 2.5% increases, respectively.
Located at 243 S. 10th St. in Washington Square, Shaking Seafood offers shrimp, catfish, crab, crawfish and more.

Whether or not you've been hearing buzz about Washington Square's DaMò Pasta Lab, the pasta shop and Italian spot is a hot topic according to Yelp review data.
While businesses categorized as "Italian" on Yelp saw a median 2% increase in new reviews over the past month, DaMò Pasta Lab bagged a 25% increase in new reviews within that time frame, maintaining a sound 4.5-star rating.
There's more that's trending on Philadelphia's Italian scene: In Riva has seen a 0.5% increase in reviews, and Bellini Grill has seen a 4.5% bump.
Open at 105 S. 12th St. since May 2019, DaMò Pasta Lab offers gnocchi, lasagna, Caprese and more.

Pizzeria Beddia
Fishtown's Pizzeria Beddia is also making waves. Open since March 2013, at 1313 N. Lee St., the well-established bar, which offers pizza and more, has seen a 7.7% bump in new reviews over the last month, compared to a median review increase of 1.5% for all businesses tagged "Bars" on Yelp.
There's more than one hot spot trending in Philadelphia's bar category: Chops Restaurant & Bar has seen a 3.4% increase in reviews, and Bourbon Blue and Giuseppe & Sons have seen 0.6 and 6.6% increases, respectively.
Pizzeria Beddia offers soft-serve ice cream and spicy pizza options. Over the past month, it's maintained a solid four-star rating among Yelpers.
