A new sushi bar has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Called Douzo, the newcomer is located at 63 Delancey St. on the Lower East Side.
Taking over the space of Berkli Parc Cafe, this cozy corner restaurant offers six tables and bar seating for at least 15 guests.
Chef Koji Kagawa, formerly of Sushi Samba, has designed a menu around two styles of sushi: temaki (hand rolls) and gunkan (boat-shaped sushi). The temaki is available in five varieties featuring fresh yellow tail, Hokkaido scallop, albacore and more, or as a build-your-own platter ($40), which includes everything you need to make your own sushi hand rolls. To drink, Douzu serves beer, sake and wine. (Find the full menu here.)
The new sushi bar has proven popular thus far, with a five-star rating out of 28 reviews on Yelp.
Vich K., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Sept. 26, wrote, "I'm a fan! I already recommended this place to a bunch of friends."
Yelper Daniel S. added, “Douzo was a good break from the normal nigiri omakases I usually get, and I would recommend this place if you don't want to wait in the long lines of the other hand roll joints."
Head on over to check it out: Douzo is open from 5 p.m.–midnight on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday and 5 p.m.–1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. (It's closed on Monday.)
