Interested in adopting a pet — or just looking at some pets up for adoption? There are dozens of deserving pets up for adoption at animal shelters in and around Durham.

Animal shelters and pet rescue groups work hard to care for unhoused pets and connect them to loving homes. Hoodline used data from Petfinder to power this roundup of pets currently available for adoption.

Piglet Family, Pig

Piglet Family is staying at Blind Spot Animals Sanctuary.

Piglet Family already has had all of their shots.

From Piglet Family's current caretaker:

There are four piglets: Two males and two females, and a sweet mama pig. Mama Sophie is a stunning young potbellied pig that likely got pregnant with her first heat cycle. At about 6-8 months old, she is a baby herself. The piglets seems to be potbelly/Kune Kune crosses. The entire family and two male potbellies came to us from an animal shelter. Once the piglets are about 13 weeks of age they will be spayed/neutered and ready for their forever homes.

Theo, Guinea Pig

Theo is a male Guinea Pig currently residing at Carolina Pet Rescue.

Theo loves being around people, and he would be the perfect addition to a home with children.

Theo's current caretakers say:

Theo is a sweet, sensitive little fellow who needs some patience and TLC to get him used to being handled. Won't you give him the loving home he deserves? Guinea pigs are very social and are happiest when housed in pairs or groups. They make good pets for families with children but require a significant amount of adult participation and supervision for appropriate care.

Here's what Beau's friends at Blind Spot Animals Sanctuary think of him:

Please meet adorable Beau! Beau is a very friendly and chatty Guinea Hog that currently calls BSAS home. Beau is exceptionally sweet and social. Despite his large size, he is very easy going and loving. We call him our gentle giant. Beau came to BSAS quite overweight therefore he is currently on a healthy diet and we hope he soon will be an athletic guy.

Notes from Betty's caretakers:

Betty and her family of 14 were rescued from a hoarding/neglect case. Betty spent her life neglected & starved until the entire family found themselves at a rural shelter.
