Interested in adopting a pet — or just taking a peek at some lovable pups up for adoption? There are dozens of great dogs up for adoption at animal shelters in and around Minneapolis.

Animal shelters and pet rescue groups work hard to care for unhoused pets and connect them to loving homes. Hoodline used data from Petfinder to power this roundup of dogs currently available for adoption.

(Details like pet availability, training, vaccinations and other features are based on data provided by Petfinder and may be subject to change; contact the shelter for the latest information.)

Lollie, pit bull terrier mix

Lollie is a female pit bull terrier mix staying at UnbreakaBULL Pit Bull Rescue.

She will get along great with kids, dogs or cats. Lollie is already spayed, vaccinated and house-trained.

Lollie "tells" her current caretakers:

I am 2.5 years old and weigh about 45 pounds. I am super sweet and have a very goofy, easygoing personality. I love my foster fur brother, who is also a pitbull like me. My foster mom says that she thinks that I am part kangaroo because I hop straight up and down when I get excited. I am also learning to walk on a leash. Who’s idea was that thing anyway? Man, there are a lot of rules to being a dog, but don’t worry, I’m getting the hang of it slowly. My foster family is working hard with me and I know that I will make some family an awesome friend for life.

Rosie, beagle

Rosie is a darling female beagle dog currently housed at Pet Haven Inc. of Minnesota.

Rosie is happy to keep company with other dogs. She is vaccinated, spayed and has mastered her house-training etiquette.

Notes from Rosie's caretakers:

Curious and lovable Rosie is a 2.5-year-old gal who will steal your heart — and any food that may be lying around :) She is a 23-pound beagle, and a great one! She lets her nose lead her life. Rosie wouldn’t be a beagle without that hound howl, which she will share for the first 10-15 minutes in her crate, when she has something to say to you, or when she sees a dog in the distance she wants to meet. After time in her crate, she settles right down, but because of the initial "Beagle Opera," no apartments for her, please.

Kaiser, Doberman pinscher

Kaiser is a male Doberman pinscher dog staying at Doberman Rescue Minnesota.

Kaiser gets along well with cats and dogs. He is already house-trained, neutered and he has all his shots.

From his current caretaker:

At this point, Kaiser is new to us and not available for adoption until all vetting is completed. We are, however, accepting applications for him. We do know he is a gentle boy who loves to cuddle and please his people. He is playful and loves to be outside exploring the world around him, going for walks, and basking in the sun on the deck. Kaiser is great with small animals and children. He likes to show how smart he is by demonstrating the commands he knows for a soft treat.

Lacey, terrier mix

Lacey is a female terrier mix in the care of Matty's Heart & Soul Animal Rescue.

Lacey loves other dogs, but is looking for cat-free forever home. She's mastered her house-training etiquette, is vaccinated and spayed.

Notes from Lacey's caretakers:

She was found as a stray in Odessa, Texas. She was put into a scary shelter almost ready to give birth. We saved her just prior to her giving birth to 10 glorious puppies. Lacey is good with dogs of all sizes, as well as adults and children. She likes to chase cats, so probably would not be a good fit if you have them. She will be ready for her forever home soon.

Baxter, boxer mix

Baxter is a male boxer mix being cared for at Matty's Heart & Soul Animal Rescue.

Baxter loves other dogs. His ideal forever home would be a cat-free environment. Baxter is already neutered, has all his shots and is house-trained.

Notes from Baxter's caretakers:

This sweet boy came from Alabama. Once he arrived we found he was heartworm positive. He has been undergoing treatment and will receive at least one more injection prior to being available for adoption. He is crate-trained and a bit of a puller on the leash. His excitement for other dogs can come off as aggression; however, once the proper introductions are made, he loves them. Baxter should not be around cats, as he views them as food! (Please be mindful that we will not let him be adopted until at least one month after his last injection.)

Razz, pit bull terrier mix

Razz is a darling male pit bull terrier mix currently residing at UnbreakaBULL Pit Bull Rescue.

Razz will get along great with your cats and dogs. He's already neutered, had all his shots and is house-trained.

Razz's current caretakers say:

He's 10 years old and lived a very sad life prior to rescue. Razz spent his whole life in a basement, many times having to sleep, eat and use the bathroom all in the same space. He was taunted by kids and adults. He was never a family member at all, just an alarm system. Despite that, Razz is very loving and gentle. He does need a lot of dental work, and we need to address several other health issues.

Pippa, Basset hound mix

Pippa is a female Basset hound mix being cared for at Minnesota Basset Rescue.

Pippa will get along great with your cats and dog, but will do best in a home without small children. She's mastered her house-training etiquette, and is spayed and vaccinated.

From Pippa's current caretaker:

She's 7 years old and on the small side, weighing about 35 pounds. At her foster home, she likes to play with the resident cat in the same way she plays with dogs, so a potential kitty housemate would need to be tolerant. She is able to stay home for nine hours during the day while her foster mom is at work. Pippa is fairly energetic for her age.
