There's a brand-new cocktail bar in town. Called Young Ethel's, the fresh arrival is located at 506 Fifth Ave. in South Slope.
Young Ethel's bills itself as "half dive bar, half fancy bar," according to its website. This throwback spot is decked out with red plush furniture, chandeliers, vintage wallpaper and checkerboard-tiled floors, but it keeps a casual lounge feel with pinball machines and movies projected on the wall. The bar serves up classic cocktails like negronis and daiquiris, as well as wines by the glass, eight regional draft beers and more than a dozen craft cans. There are also regular happy hour specials and DJ'd dance parties.
The fresh arrival has already attracted fans thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of 10 reviews on Yelp.
Nicky T., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Sept. 5, wrote, "Awesome selection of beers on draft and in cans, well-made and tasty cocktails and a nice variety of wine. The space is gorgeous and super clean."
Yelper Megan R. added, “So happy to have this cute new bar in the 'hood!"
Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Young Ethel's is open from 3 p.m.–2 a.m. Monday-Thursday, 3 p.m.–3 a.m. on Friday, noon–3 a.m. on Saturday and noon–2 a.m. on Sunday.
