As the holiday season begins, many choose to ramp up their giving and their volunteer work. The numbers show that nearly a third of annual giving happens in December alone.
If you’re looking to make an impact close to home this holiday season, many nonprofit organizations in the Atlanta metro area are welcoming volunteers and contributions through year’s end. Here are three of them, which we’re highlighting because of their focus on distributing food and feeding the unhoused as Thanksgiving approaches.
Lift Up Atlanta
Fulton County Oak Hill Center, 2805 Metropolitan Parkway SW
Lift Up Atlanta helps homeless and low-income families with programs including assistance with food, clothing and shelter, and educational training such as career workshops and computer classes.
Its 2019 Thanksgiving Food Drive is collecting contributions for food baskets and donations of individual items. See the link for full details.
Atlanta Community Food Bank
732 Joseph E. Lowery Blvd. NW
The Atlanta Community Food Bank distributes food and groceries to food pantries, community kitchens and other nonprofits. Donations through the website will help feed people through the holiday season. Volunteer opportunities are available throughout the year as well.
Children’s Restoration Network
11285 Elkins Road, Suite C-4, Roswell
The Children’s Restoration Network assists unhoused women and children through programs and events designed to address their needs, including academic, emotional and physical.
This year’s Thanksgiving Food Drive aims to provide meals to thousands of children in the metro area. Visit this page for more information and to make a donation. If you’re looking to volunteer, see the online signup form.
