Unsure where Los Angeles' in-the-know crowd is eating and drinking? It's easy to spot lines out the door, but some underlying trends are harder to see.

We took a data-driven look at the question, using Yelp to deduce which local businesses have been getting a significant increase in attention this month.

To find out who made the list, we looked at Los Angeles businesses on Yelp by category and counted how many reviews each received. Rather than compare them based on number of reviews alone, we calculated a percentage increase in reviews over the past month, and tracked businesses that consistently increased their volume of reviews to identify statistically significant outliers compared to past performance.

Read on to see which spots have the momentum heading into the end of the year.

The Hrb Experience

Open since October 2019, this sushi bar is trending compared to other businesses categorized as "Sushi Bars" on Yelp.

Citywide, sushi bars saw a median 1% increase in new reviews over the past month, but The HRB Experience saw a remarkable 285.7% increase, with a slight downward trend from a 4.5-star rating a month ago to four stars today.

It's not the only trending outlier in the sushi bar category: Itacho Ramen & Sushi has seen a 18.1% increase in reviews.

Located at 529 W. Sixth St. in downtown Los Angeles, The HRB Experience offers sushi hand rolls a la carte or omakase (chef's choice). The rolls include spicy tuna, blue crab and lobster. View the menu here.

The HRB Experience is open from 11:30 a.m.–10 p.m. on Monday-Saturday and 5 p.m.–10 p.m. on Sunday.
