If you're after ramen, look no further than this new business. Called NR, the new arrival is located at 339 E. 75th St. on the Upper East Side.
This cocktail bar and ramen shop sets out to put "a contemporary twist on restaurants that were found in traditional Japanese port towns during the Meiji period," according to its Facebook page. Featuring a 19th-century decor and antique-style glassware, NR offers a menu of traditional ramen (topped with pork belly or veggies) and small plates such as oysters and pork buns.
Owner Shigefumi Kabashima, who also runs ramen and cocktail spot ROKC in West Harlem, designed NR's drink list, which boasts more then 40 classic and signature cocktails. Check out the Transparent Tomato made with tomato shochu, the Thai tea with cachaça and absinthe, and the Old Fashioned with Japanese whiskey and brown sugar. Other options include beer, wine and sake.
With a 4.5-star rating out of 24 reviews on Yelp so far, the fresh arrival has already made a good impression.
Yelper Brett B. noted, "This place has a lot of great things going for it! So many amazing craft cocktails to choose from. We started off with the Apple and Thai Tea and thoroughly enjoyed both. As for the food, the menu is small and their creations are well thought out. At the moment the only ramen flavors they have are Kyoto and Vegetable. Both were excellent!"
Head on over to check it out: NR is open from 5 p.m.–midnight on Sunday-Thursday and 5 p.m.–1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
