This entirely vegan burger joint comes from entrepreneur Andrea Kerzner and chef Amanda Cohen, who also owns and operates Lower East side vegan restaurant Dirt Candy.
The burgers at this new spot are made with Lekka Burger's proprietary soy- and gluten-free patties, which Cohen created following a 900-year-old Chinese recipe, according to the business's website.
Lekka Burger offers five kinds of sandwiches, from its basic burger with traditional fixings and house pickles to a masala burger with herb mayo and curry tamarind ketchup, all of which are served on homemade Japanese-style milk buns. The menu also includes other plant-based fast food favorites, like fries and vegan shakes, as well as salads. There's a full bar, too, serving beer, wine and cocktails.
The fresh addition has gotten an enthusiastic response thus far, with a four-star rating out of 21 reviews on Yelp.
Mark C., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Nov. 21, wrote, "These are awesome vegetarian burgers!"
