Interested in adopting a pet — or just taking a peek at some delightful doggies up for adoption? There are dozens of great dogs up for adoption at animal shelters in and around Seattle.

Animal shelters and pet rescue groups work hard to care for unhoused pets and connect them to loving homes. Hoodline used data from Petfinder to power this roundup of dogs currently available for adoption.

(Details like pet availability, training, vaccinations and other features are based on data provided by Petfinder and may be subject to change; contact the shelter for the latest information.)

Jimee, Pomeranian and chihuahua mix

Jimee is a male Pomeranian and chihuahua mix being cared for at Ferry Dog Mothers.

Jimee is happy to keep company with other dogs and cats. He's mastered his house-training etiquette. Jimee is already neutered and vaccinated.

Here's what Jimee has to say:

I’m a little firecracker, weighing in at 10 pounds soaking wet and I’m between three to four years old. I absolutely love going on car rides. Are you into the same things I’m into? Do you want to be my new best friend?

Jack, German shepherd

Jack is a male German shepherd dog currently residing at Washington German Shepherd Rescue.

He's neutered and vaccinated. He has mastered his house-training etiquette.

From Jack's current caretaker:

Jack is a 10-month-old male German Shepherd who has just arrived into rescue. His owner was older and was unable to care for him. Jack has impeccable house manners. He was well loved and cared for prior to coming to us. Jack is being fostered with two other shepherds. He loves playing with the other two shepherds in the household. We look forward to finding Jack the best possible home.

Baxter, pug and chihuahua mix

Baxter is a male pug and chihuahua mix being cared for at Dog Gone Seattle.

Baxter is ready to make friends — he's happy to keep company with other dogs. He has mastered his house-training etiquette. His vaccinations are up to date, and he's neutered.

Baxter's current caretakers say:

Baxter is an adorable pug/chihuahua mix. Baxter's foster family shares that he is the sweetest little guy. He's very friendly and affectionate, wags his tail and loves belly rubs. He's a little shy with strangers at first, but with a proper introduction he warms up quickly. Baxter enjoys exploring outside and does well on walks with leadership from his humans. He is currently working on learning more commands, including "place." Baxter also has the cutest habit of standing up on his two hind legs when he wants your attention

Cha-Cha, Shih Tzu

Cha-Cha is a female Shih Tzu dog being kept at Charlie's Foundation.

Cha-Cha gets along well with other dogs and cats. She is spayed and vaccinated. Good news: She is already house-trained. Cha-Cha is a special needs pet, so please inquire about her specific care requirements.

Here's what Cha-Cha's friends at Charlie's Foundation think of her:

Cha Cha is a sweet little senior spitfire (around 10+ years old) who may not see and hear like she used to, but still loves exploring the great outdoors and then settling in for a good snooze. She’s an independent soul who forges her own path as she goes, and gladly welcomes other calm, easy-going dogs and cats along for the ride. Her partial blindness and hearing loss does cause her to surprise and startle easily, so she will need a patient family who will help her navigate safely (we’re recommending children over the age of 10).

Nibbler, poodle and Maltese mix

Nibbler is a charming male poodle and Maltese mix being cared for at Seattle Dogs Homeless Program.

Nibbler gets along well with cats and dogs. Seattle Dogs Homeless Program, however, recommends he be placed in a home without small children. He has been vaccinated and neutered. No need to worry: He's already house-trained.

From Nibbler's current caretaker:

Nibbler is a adorable poodle mix. He is estimated 3-4 years old. He is an absolutely precious boy that likes people, car rides, other dogs and is OK with cats. We are looking for a home with no children. He is not crate trained since he likes to be with people. He is also not leash trained, therefore any adopter will be required to slowly work with him within the home and yard at first.

Magic, American Staffordshire terrier

Magic is a lovable female American Staffordshire terrier dog staying at Dog Gone Seattle.

Magic likes to socialize — she'll get along great with your other dogs. She is vaccinated and spayed. Good news: She's already house-trained.

Here's what Magic's friends at Dog Gone Seattle think of her:

Magic is a 1.5 year old female lab pit mix who was 'adopted' as a puppy over a year ago and now is 'too much work' for the owner, who passed her on to his mom. We are helping mom find a suitable home for this young, athletic, beautiful, energetic lab/pit mix who is friendly with all dogs and people. She is crate-trained and house-trained but needs basic obedience training.

Rex Sr., German shepherd

Rex Sr. is a lovable male German shepherd dog in the care of Dog Gone Seattle.

Rex Sr. needs special time to bond with you: He'll need a home free of other dogs, cats and kids. He's been vaccinated and neutered. No need to worry: He's already house-trained.

From Rex Sr's current caretaker:

Rex Sr is an estimated seven-year-old purebred male German Shepherd with an unfortunate past but we're keen to find him a bright future. Rex is incredibly loyal with his people once he gets to know you but he does require slow introductions. He does have a bite history from unfortunate circumstances when he was either in pain (due to ear infections) or introduced to people who wanted to pet him on the head too quickly. However, he is not a dog to go after people or other animals and prefers to spend his time with his people. He is house-trained and not destructive.
