A new Asian fusion spot, offering ramen and a hookah bar, has debuted in the neighborhood. The fresh arrival to the H Street Corridor, called Kitsuen, is located at 1362 H St. NE.
The restaurant's website states that it works with sustainable produce sourced from local growers, and that the menu shifts with the seasons. Currently Kitsuen offers dishes such as creamy chicken broth with boneless chicken thighs, cabbage, nori and more, as well as fried shrimp and octopus croquet appetizers. It also serves beer, cocktails, wine and sake.
With a 3.5-star rating out of 21 reviews on Yelp so far, the new spot has gotten a good response.
Lorena T., who was among the first Yelpers to review Kitsuen on Feb. 6, wrote, "I personally favored the Kitsuen tori kara-age; the chicken was juicy and the spicy mayo that it is served with is 'the icing on the cake.' I ordered the spicy miso ramen — came out quickly and with all the toppings."
Yelper Mekdela T. added, “For starters we had the Kitsuen tori kara-age (the fried chicken) with the spicy mayo, and the fried shrimp. My favorite item of the night was the tori kara-age. It was pretty tender and the spicy mayo went perfect with it.”
Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Kitsuen's kitchen is open from 4 - 10 p.m. on Thursday-Sunday. The hookah lounge is open from 8 p.m.- 1 a.m. on Thursday- Sunday (It's closed on Monday-Wednesday.)
