A new Mexican restaurant and cocktail bar has opened up shop in the neighborhood. The fresh addition to Hell's Kitchen, called Casa del Toro, is located at 626B 10th Ave.
Opened as a sister restaurant to French spot Le Privé next door, Casa del Toro offers a menu of Mexican shareables and small plates, including more than a dozen kinds of tacos. Check out the salsa sampler, the Chihuahua cheese croquetas, the chicharrón with plantains, and the tlayuda, an Oaxacan-style tortilla topped with chicken, beans and cabbage. Or try one of the tacos, which are available in traditional varieties like al pastor and in specialty styles, featuring roast duck, portobello mushrooms, short rib and more.
On the drink list, you'll find seven signature cocktails, like the Tales of the Toro (made with tequila, bourbon and homemade chamomile cordial), the El Matador (with hibiscus mezcal) and the Late Night Action (with Campari-infused coffee beans). Other beverages include beer, wine and a selection of classic cocktails, like Manhattans and daiquiris.
The new spot has already attracted fans thus far, with a four-star rating out of 12 reviews on Yelp.
Rafia J., who was among the first Yelpers to review Casa del Toro on Jan. 19, wrote, "I've been coming to this place since its opening and had the pleasure of trying almost all cocktails and most of the items on the menu! The drinks! Whoo!"
Yelper Jeff R. added, "Casa del Toro is now my favorite Mexican food place."
Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. The restaurant is open from 5–11 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 5 p.m.–1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 5–10 p.m. on Sunday.
