Craving vegetarian food?
Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the best affordable vegetarian restaurants around New York City, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of the best spots to venture when cravings strike.
1. B&H Dairy

Topping the list is B&H Dairy. Located at 127 Second Ave. (between Seventh Street and St. Mark's Place) in the East Village, this kosher vegetarian luncheonette is the highest-rated affordable vegetarian restaurant in New York City, boasting 4.5 stars out of 464 reviews on Yelp.
Open for business for more than 80 years, the restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, and Grub Street recently named its latkes among "The Absolute Best" in the city.
"B&H Dairy, opened in 1938, is one of the oldest surviving kosher vegetarian restaurants in New York City," the business states on its Yelp page. "Specialties include homemade Eastern European comfort food — blintzes, pierogis, great soups, including vegetarian matzo ball, cabbage rolls — and breakfast. We make our own challah bread, a key ingredient in our famous challah French toast and crazy-popular B&H Tuna Melt."
2. Ganesh Temple Canteen

Next up is Flushing's Ganesh Temple Canteen. Located inside of a Hindu temple at 143-09 Holly Ave., this cafeteria, which opened up in 1993, offers an extensive menu of vegetarian South Indian fare, including curries, rice dishes and dosas (Indian crepes) with a wide variety of fillings and toppings. With 4.5 stars out of 243 reviews on Yelp, it has proved to be a local favorite for those looking for an affordable option.
Yelper Greer M., who reviewed the business on Jan. 24, wrote, "When I periodically get cravings for dosas, I make my way over to Flushing to go to the Temple Canteen. The people who work here are extremely friendly and explain the menu offerings really well. The food is extremely delicious and also affordable (last time we visited, I luckily ended up with leftovers for my next day's lunch!)."
3. The Panorama of My Silence-Heart

Then there's The Panorama of My Silence-Heart, a vegetarian cafe in Jamaica with 4.5 stars out of 309 Yelp reviews. This spot, which is open daily from 8 a.m.–5 p.m daily, serves up veggie- and vegan-friendly morning and daytime fare, such as breakfast sandwiches, breakfast bowls, juices, smoothies, salads and sandwiches. Head over to 84-73 Parsons Blvd. to see for yourself.
"The Panorama of my Silence-Heart is a vegetarian cafe inspired by the philosophy of Sri Chinmoy, who inaugurated the opening on Aug. 7, 2007," the business says in the history section of its Yelp profile. "He also gave the cafe its name, which he said 'means beauty all around.'"
