Interested in adopting a pet — or just taking a peek at some lovable pups up for adoption? There are dozens of great dogs up for adoption at animal shelters in and around Stockton.

Animal shelters and pet rescue groups work hard to care for unhoused pets and connect them to loving homes. Hoodline used data from Petfinder to power this roundup of dogs currently available for adoption.

(Details like pet availability, training, vaccinations and other features are based on data provided by Petfinder and may be subject to change; contact the shelter for the latest information.)

Maisie, Jack Russell terrier and beagle mix

Maisie is a charming female Jack Russell terrier and beagle mix being kept at Russell Rescue (North Carolina).

Maisie loves kids, dogs or cats. She has had all her shots. Have no fear: She's already house-trained.

Maisie's current caretakers say:

Maisie is a two to three year old female terrier mix. We aren't too sure about her past life or back story but she was found by someone who gave her to a friend who realized she needed more room to run and play than they could provide. She has the best manners and likes kids, other dogs and cats. Maisie eats a limited ingredient diet as many foods seem to give her skin issues. She is a runner, so she cannot be let outside in an unfenced area.

Zack will get along great with your other dogs. He is looking for cat-free household. Zack is looking for a home without small children. He is already house-trained. Zack is neutered, and he has had all his shots.

From Zack's current caretaker:

Zack is estimated to be roughly 3.5 years old and weighs 16 lbs. He is going to need a very savvy Jack-Russel owner–no children and no cats! Zack is hesitant of unknown humans. You will need to be patient, as well as extremely calm. He has the potential to be an amazing companion and a loyal and faithful pet, but is wary and seeks time to bond. He walks nicely on the leash, does not bark, and will not jump on you at introduction.

Niko is a five year old male in need of an experienced home. Niko needs a patient and kind household with the understanding that he needs time to trust his human, particularly when putting on his harness and touching. He approaches every activity with great enthusiasm except for getting out of a warm bed in the morning. His favorite activity is receiving treats to support his positive behavior.
