In search of a new favorite halal spot?

Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the best affordable halal restaurants around New York City, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to meet your needs.

1. The Halal Guys

Topping the list is the original Halal Guys food cart, serving up chicken and gyro platters on the corner of 53rd Street and Sixth Avenue in Midtown.

Since setting up shop in 1990, The Halal Guys has grown into an international franchise, but the original cart still remains, and boasting four stars out of 9,437 reviews on Yelp, it happens to be the most popular spot to score cheap halal eats in New York City.

Yelper Tracy P., who reviewed The Halal Guys on April 7, wrote, "The line was long, but it was worth the wait! The experience of getting it from the food truck was awesome! No wonder everyone loves this place! The meat and rice was so good!"

Julienne P. noted, "These guys are the real deal!"

2. Royal Grill Halal Food

Next up is another Midtown food cart, Royal Grill Halal Food, which can be found down the street at Sixth Avenue and 44th. This spot offers halal Indian food to-go, like tikka masala over rice, lamb biryani, kati rolls and more, and with five stars out of 350 reviews on Yelp, it has proved to be a local favorite for those looking for a low-priced option.

Yelper Karthikeyan R., who reviewed Royal Grill Halal Food on Feb. 19, wrote, "Quality and delicious food on a budget!"

Charley M. noted, "Believe the reviews. This place is great."

3. Holy Cow

Chinatown burger joint Holy Cow, located at 34 Canal St. (near the East Broadway subway station), is another top choice. Check out this spot for fast-food-style halal burgers and chicken sandwiches made with regionally sourced meat and served with fries and milkshakes (a vegan Impossible burger is available, too). Yelpers give this low-priced option 4.5 stars out of 251 reviews.

Yelp can tell you a thing or two more about Holy Cow.

"Holy Cow was founded out of a desire to bring the hamburger back to its delicious roots," per the business's Yelp profile. "The highest quality beef paired with the freshest ingredients and a one-of-a-kind sauce, all in a hand-rolled bun. It's what you've been missing."

4. The Kati Roll Company

Last but not least is the Midtown West location of The Kati Roll Company, with four stars out of 1,532 Yelp reviews. This outpost of the local fast-casual mini chain — which has five other restaurants around Manhattan and one in London — serves up more than a dozen different kinds of kati rolls, as well as lassis, rice bowls and other halal-friendly Indian fare. Head over to 49 W. 39th St. (between Fifth and Sixth avenues) to see for yourself.

Curious to know more?

"The Kati Roll Company serves authentic kati rolls, a Calcuttan street food made of a warm paratha or whole-wheat roti wrapped around spiced fillings such a grilled meats, cheeses, vegetables or seafood and topped with a signature citrus cilantro chutney," the business states on its Yelp page.
