Gus Gus, domestic shorthair

Gus Gus is a handsome male domestic shorthair cat staying at Austin Pets Alive!

Gus Gus gets along swimmingly with other cats. Rest assured: He's already neutered, microchipped and vaccinated.

Notes from Gus Gus' caretakers:

Regal, curious, cautious Gus Gus was found caught in a fence, where he'd been stuck for who knows how long! His back leg was so badly injured it required amputation. But, this brave little soldier came through surgery with flying colors, and he is adjusting beautifully to life as a tripod. So, you'll forgive Gus if it might take him a while to warm up to new people and a new environment, given his recent trauma! It will take him some time to trust you, but then he will sweetly push his head into your hand and start letting you pick him up for short periods of time. Then, he will progress to coming when you call him! Before you know it, he will sleep at the foot of your bed at night. You just need to be patient, gentle and kind, and give him the time to become comfortable and relaxed. It's obvious that he appreciates love and affection, but he's not ready to rush into it on day one. In the meantime, he can be bribed with treats! Gus is not shy with toys, however. He will cheerfully tear apart fuzzy toys, and may even run after one if you throw it. Over time, we think he will embrace playtime, and be entertaining, enthusiastic and vibrant. Again, he just needs time to get there — loud noises and sudden moves startle him. When he's in the groove, he will joyfully run and jump, as capable as any four-legged kitty. No doubt, this sweet tabby has had some serious trauma in his short life. But, he has rebounded spectacularly and deserves nothing but love, happiness and security for the many years of life he has ahead. He would love a home with fuzzy toys, cozy spaces and big windows! If you'd like to be the person to give these priceless gifts to him, Gus would be forever grateful, and so would we!
