As the first ever Madame Vice President, our former SF district attorney, California attorney general, and U.S. senator Kamala Harris will reside at the U.S. Naval Observatory’s One Observatory Circle. But the place is under renovation, so she and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff are currently staying at the unofficial White House guest residence, the Blair House. Regardless, as vice president, she no longer needs her South of Market condo, and presumably will not be visiting the All Star Donuts at the end of its alley's block.

Harris put her SF home on the market not too long ago, and it sold in just over a week. The Wall Street Journal reports that Harris’ SoMa apartment has sold, barely a week after its listing was put on the market. The Journal further reports that the asking price was $799,000, though the sale price is not disclosed.

According to the Journal, “Ms. Harris bought the apartment for $489,000 in 2004,” shortly after being sworn in as SF district attorney.

If you’re into real estate listings, Architectural Digest reports the property “spans two levels atop a small boutique building in the city’s trendy SoMa neighborhood,” and that “The double-height living and dining room features floor-to-ceiling windows that lead out to a private terrace and overlook the city.”

The property is on SoMa’s Clara Street near I-80, a small alley that has another and more tragic notoriety. A headless corpse in a fish tank was discovered in a property down the street in 2018, and the Bay Area Reporter connected the dots a year later to find that this was also Harris' block. The victim, 65-year-old former Stud bartender Brian Egg, owned the house where the murder took place. A suspect in that case was released in April 2019, and still no one has been charged in that murder.

The SoMa apartment was the most modest property in the Harris-Emhoffs’ portfolio. In addition to her official vice presidential digs, she also owns a condo in northwest Washington, DC, and co-owns a house in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles with her very successful attorney husband.
