6 Months Jail Time & Fines Just for Existing within 200Ft of a Sideshow in Alameda, As Supervisors CrackdownRendering

If you live in Alameda County, then you had best stay clear of sideshows. In a move to deter the surge in sideshow activity that has become a vexing issue in Oakland and the wider Bay Area, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors has voted to make it illegal to even watch a sideshow. Those found to be within 200 feet of a sideshow may face a six-month jail sentence and/or a $1,000 fine.

The new regulation has been met with some opposition from First Amendment Coalition legal director David Loy who argues that this excessively criminalizes spectators and bystanders, including innocent people and journalists who are simply monitoring the events. But despite the criticism of the new regulation, Alameda County Board President Nate Miley feels its necessary to take a novel approach in order to reduce the illegal sideshows. Find out more about this new regulation to understand the consequences and possible loopholes that may exist. Read the Full Story on SFist -->
