A nine-month pregnant woman in Oakland managed to survive a frightening shooting event that left her injured, according to NBC Bay Area. The woman suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, but fortunately, she and her unborn baby are now listed in stable condition in a local hospital.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night when police officers were flagged down near 73rd Avenue and International Boulevard, where they found the injured woman. It is believed that the actual shooting scene was located at 77th Avenue and International Boulevard, as CBS News San Francisco reported.

The 25-year-old victim was a passenger in a vehicle driven by another individual when the shooting took place. As the pair traveled southbound on 77th Avenue, preparing to turn onto westbound International Boulevard, three people standing outside on the corner began shooting at the vehicle, according to the Mercury News. The woman was the only individual struck by the gunfire, resulting in the gunshot wound in her chest. Her driver then transported her to the vicinity of 73rd Avenue and International Boulevard, where police were contacted and she was subsequently taken to a hospital.

Investigators are still attempting to determine the motive for the shooting and whether the individuals inside the vehicle were indeed the intended targets. While detailed descriptions of the shooters have yet to be released, the Oakland Police Department has recovered numerous shell casings at the site of the shooting.

The Oakland Police Department's Felony Assault Unit is spearheading the ongoing investigation, while urging anyone with information on the incident to contact investigators at (510) 238-3326.
