A failed armed robbery at a Bank of America parking lot in Emeryville on Sunday, July 16 left one person with a gunshot wound to the leg, prompting local police to launch a search for the four suspects involved in the incident according to KRON4. The suspects are believed to have fled the scene in a red Hyundai sedan with an unidentified license plate, distinctive front-end damage, and aftermarket black rims.
The incident took place at around 12:38 p.m. when the suspects attempted to rob two victims at gunpoint in the bank's parking lot on San Pablo Avenue, as reported by the Mercury News. One victim was shot in the leg after a struggle with one of the suspects, but both victims are said to be unrelated to each other. Police and emergency medical personnel soon arrived at the scene, treating the wounded victim, who is now in stable condition at a local hospital.
Emeryville authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information about the suspects, who remain at large, or the events of the robbery attempt per NBC Bay Area. It appears that the Bank of America parking lot may have become a hotspot for such criminal activity in recent months, with a number of armed robberies targeting ATM users reported in the area.
Following an advisory issued by the Emeryville Police Department in late June, investigators are now considering whether these incidents might be connected, especially since a similar pattern of events was observed during Sunday's incident. One common factor is the bank's parking lot location on San Pablo Avenue, which seems to serve as a convergence point for such crimes.
As the investigation continues and suspects are pursued, community members and bank patrons are advised to exercise caution at Emeryville's Bank of America parking lot and surrounding areas. Anyone with information related to the armed robbery or the suspects is encouraged to reach out to the Emeryville Police Department Criminal Investigations Section at 510-596-3700 and reference case 2307-1144.
