From Roof to Rubble: Burglar Crashes Through Store Ceiling in San Leandro

An unusual burglary attempt took place at a Metro by T-Mobile store in San Leandro, California. The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Juan Velazquez, allegedly entered the store by breaking in through the roof, only to crash into the stock room. He remained covered in drywall for 11 hours while an employee was working inside, according to a tweet by KTVU reporter Henry K Lee.

Velazquez was promptly arrested by the San Leandro Police Department and has been charged by the Alameda County District Attorney with second-degree burglary. His arrest took place on July 28, 2023 in San Leandro, and he has been held at the Santa Rita Jail since his booking later that afternoon, as mentioned on the Alameda County inmate locator website.

Juan Velazquez is a Hispanic male, born on September 16, 1974, with brown eyes, grey hair, standing 5'6" tall, and weighing 140 pounds. His initial arraignment has been scheduled for August 1, 2023, at 9:00 AM in Department 702 of the East County Hall of Justice, according to Alameda County records.
