The incident began around 12:21 p.m. in the area of Ninth Street and Broadway, a mere two blocks from the Police Administration Building. Witnesses claimed to have heard gunshots ringing out as occupants of two vehicles engaged in a heated exchange of gunfire over the course of several blocks before it ended.
Police promptly responded by cordoning off various streets, including Clay Street, as the search for evidence and possibly hidden victims continued.
