A devastating fire tore through an East Oakland apartment complex, leaving 14 residents displaced and bringing chaos to their lives. According to a Bay Area News Group article, the fire started around 6:15 a.m. in the basement area of the four-unit, two-story residential building on Courtland Avenue.
Battalion Fire Chief Michael Hughes reported that flames were already shooting from the building when the first of 20 firefighters arrived on the scene. Miraculously, there were no reported injuries among the residents or firefighters, as everyone was able to evacuate safely, including children and seniors.
The fire was eventually brought under control by 6:56 a.m., but questions still linger about the cause of the blaze, especially since a damage figure has not yet been determined. Investigators are currently looking into the matter, hoping to shed light on what led to the disastrous fire that left many Oakland residents homeless.
