Update: Gomez entered a plea of 'not guilty' at her San Mateo County courtroom arraignment on Tuesday, where Judge Kevin Dunleavy presided. She was released on a $200,000 bail bond, and a preliminary hearing is set for September 6.
In a tragic tale of beauty and obsession gone awry, a cosmetologist finds herself enmeshed in the untimely demise of a Kim Kardashian lookalike - a turn of events that opens a dark window into the dangers of unregulated cosmetic procedures and the lengths some will go to alter their appearance. 50-year-old Vivian Alexandra Gomez, accused in the tragic death of model Christina Ashten Gourkani after an illegal buttock-enhancement procedure, is slated to plead her case in court today according to KRON4.
Gourkani, a 34-year-old San Jose resident with an uncanny resemblance to Kim Kardashian, complete with half a million Instagram followers, is believed to have found Gomez online before meeting her at a Burlingame hotel room for the ill-fated procedure., as Hoodline reported. Gourkani then fell severely ill, prompting her fiancé to contact emergency services and transport her to Mills Peninsula Medical Center. Unfortunately, Gourkani passed away the following day, suffering respiratory failure and a pulmonary embolism, likely as a direct result of Gomez's botched silicone injections.
Subsequently, Gomez was arrested at a Florida airport and extradited to San Mateo County, now awaiting her turn to face justice. Injecting silicone for body contouring remains strictly unapproved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), rendering Gomez's actions both dangerous and illegal, prosecutors told KRON4.
While currently out on a $200,000 bail bond, Gomez's precarious legal situation has resulted in a prohibition against performing any further medical or cosmetic procedures. She has also been required to surrender her U.S. and Colombian passports, alongside a promise not to leave California state.
The heartbreaking circumstances surrounding Gourkani's death underscore the hazardous realities associated with unauthorized and unregulated cosmetic treatments. As her grieving father, Michael Gourkani, offered a testimony that resonated through the courtroom, the sense of loss his family has experienced throughout this difficult ordeal became palpable.
