On July 6, the Country Hills neighborhood in Antioch, California, was awoken by the ominous presence of a masked gang of burglars on their streets, sparking panic and fear amongst its residents. The group, captured in chilling footage, could be seen systematically rummaging through cars and carrying out opportunistic thefts as residents watched helplessly from their homes.

Local resident Mike Allen, whose vehicle was burglarized, described the moment he witnessed the horrifying scene via his home security system at 2:30 a.m., "When I see them I didn’t know what was happening. I was like, ‘I hope they don’t try to go through the garage.’ I was like, ‘I am not going out there by myself.’ It was about 10 of them," as reported by KRON4.

The brazen group targeted multiple vehicles, some unlocked, along the street that night and left the neighborhood reeling from the crime spree. Allen recounted his girlfriend's car being broken into, "She had her baby bag in the car. They went in there rummaging through everything." Other residents confirmed similar break-ins, sharing their stories of shock and apprehension. The footage provided a chilling insight into the cold and calculated nature of these crimes.

The Antioch Police Department acknowledged the crime as unusual, with Spokesperson Sgt. Price Kendall stating that a group this large "going around looking into cars and walking the neighborhood" is a rarity. While the investigation is ongoing, it is believed that the group was primarily focusing on unlocked car doors and avoiding breaking and entering.

The recent events raise further concerns about the growth of crime in the Antioch area, which has hitherto managed to escape the worst of the crime problem affecting the Bay Area. Although the police arrived on the scene just minutes after being called, no arrests have been made so far.
