A speeding motorcyclist lost his life in an accident in Chula Vista after striking another vehicle, yesterday. The motorcycle collided with a passenger vehicle on the 400 block of Palomar St, according to the Chula Vista Police Department.
The accident occurred at around 6:26 P.M., prompting numerous 911 calls from people in the vicinity of Fifth Ave and Palomar St; when officers from the Chula Vista Police Department arrived on the scene, they found the male motorcyclist suffering from severe traumatic injuries, and though both officers and Chula Vista Fire Department firefighters tried their best by attempting life-saving measures, the injured motorcyclist was transported to UCSD Medical Center where he ultimately succumbed to the injuries sustained in the collision.
Initial witness interviews and evidence at the scene indicate that the motorcycle was traveling far in excess of the speed limit when it struck the turning vehicle, as reported by Chula Vista Police Department spokesperson Sergeant Anthony Molina.
Thankfully, the driver of the passenger vehicle involved in the accident did not suffer life-threatening injuries, but was still transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The police department's preliminary investigation suggests that neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor in this collision, and there was no indication of any other vehicles being involved. The accident is actively under investigation as officers continue to gather information, and anyone with additional information or who might have witnessed the collision is encouraged to contact the Chula Vista Police Department Traffic Bureau at (619) 476-5320, or leave an anonymous tip with San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or through the P3tips website or mobile application.
