Chaos ensued in Antioch, as a late-night sideshow led to three injured individuals and multiple damaged vehicles, one of which ended up submerged in a river, according to ABC7 News. The Antioch Marina and Smith's Landing parking lot acted as the epicenter of the havoc, with a sideshow featuring around 50 vehicles.
The incident unfolded with a car plunging into the marina water at the boat launch, subsequently discovered to be empty and not reported stolen, with the submerged vehicle pulled out around 6 a.m. on Sunday morning. Another driver lost control in the parking lot, crashing into a fire hydrant and breaking a water main at Smiths Landing. Yet another driver from the sideshow crashed near 10th and G Streets, with police saying it is unclear whether the third driver was injured in that crash, ABC7 News reported.
Antioch Police Department and Contra Costa County Fire responded to the scene at G Street and W 9th Street for a vehicle crash that required extrication, with two people injured after being pinned in the vehicle. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, an air ambulance was unable to respond. The suspect fled the scene but was later apprehended, with at least three people being treated for injuries, according to KTVU.
Battalion Chief Bob Atlas of Contra Costa County Fire informed that the sideshow began at Ninth and G Streets shortly after 3 a.m., causing participants to disperse throughout the city when the sideshow was disbanded. At least one person was arrested in one of the crashes that injured two people, but the conditions of the injured individuals remain undisclosed.
