As the Bay Area prepares for the Labor Day holiday weekend, Oakland International Airport (OAK) braces for the anticipated arrival of over 210,000 travelers between Thursday, August 31, and Tuesday, September 5, according to an announcement from the airport. This figure represents an impressive 88 percent of the traffic levels observed in the pre-pandemic year of 2019, marking a sense of renewed vibrancy and progress in these unprecedented times.

As the airport's Interim Director of Aviation at the Port of Oakland, Craig Simon, has noted, Oakland International Airport expects high passenger volumes for the upcoming weekend. He has recommended travelers to allow extra time for navigating their way to the terminal and taking advantage of OAK's newly introduced passenger amenities, such as the OAK Clubhouse located in Terminal 1.

With Friday and Monday anticipated to be the busiest travel days at the airport, authorities have asked the passengers to arrive early and to check their airline's mobile app for the latest flight status information, especially when flying to destinations impacted by weather. Concurrently, parking is currently available across all of OAK's passenger parking lots. However, travelers have been encouraged to reserve their parking ahead of time for an added peace of mind.

Not just OAK, but airports all around the Bay Area are expecting a significant influx of travelers eager to savor the long holiday weekend. A tweet from SFBART acknowledges this surge and advises passengers to arrive early at the airports, emphasizing the convenience of using public transit to reach the OAK and SFO airports, avoiding potential parking troubles and traffic woes.
