In the early hours of August 19th, 2023, a Contra Costa County Sheriff's Deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop in El Sobrante, California. The deputy's pursuit of the White Chevrolet Silverado truck, which had refused to stop, started just after 2 a.m., according to NBC Bay Area. The high-speed chase led the deputy westbound on I-80 into Oakland and subsequently eastbound I-580.
As reported by KRON4, near the I-580/SR-24 intersection, the suspect vehicle slammed its brakes, made a sudden turn-around, and collided with the pursuing sheriff patrol vehicle. The deputy was injured in the crash and taken to the hospital for precautionary measures. Fortunately, the officer has since been released.
Following the collision, the driver of the truck and possibly other accomplices attempted to flee on foot, but they were eventually apprehended and taken into custody. It is still unclear how many individuals were involved in the incident.
The motives behind the driver's refusal to stop, as well as the details leading up to the pursuit and subsequent crash, remain under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
