Following the recent announcement of an ambitious paving project on Rumrill Boulevard between Post Avenue and San Pablo Avenue, the North of Market community is gearing up for a summer-to-fall season that promises improved infrastructures but will come at the cost of temporary inconveniences. The ongoing paving initiative, detailed in a press release, specifies schedules from August 21st until the end of September to gradually enhance the thoroughfare.

According to the established plan, the project encompasses several phases to assure maximum efficiency and reduce impact on residents and businesses. These phases include timed lane closures, detours, and construction stages specifically tailored to navigate the inherently complex work zone. While the expected outcome is to eventually provide safer crosswalks, a new bicycle-friendly pathway, and pollution control measures for the benefit of the community, the interim challenges posed to local business owners and residents cannot be underestimated.
While undertaking this major paving project, the City of San Pablo has recognized the disruption and inconvenience locals might face during the construction period. To mitigate these effects, additional traffic control measures in the form of flaggers and inspection staff will be present on site, ensuring smooth traffic and maintaining safety protocols during the operation. Access to residents and businesses may be limited or impacted to facilitate essential work in front of properties, but measures will be in place to keep disruptions to a minimum during work hours.
Among the phases listed in the press release, key stages affecting intersections include Phase 1, targeting the San Pablo Avenue intersection and anticipated to take place from August 21st to 22nd. Phase 2 concerns the Brookside intersection and is scheduled between August 23rd and 24th, as we speak. Additionally, Phase 3 will focus on the Broadway intersection from August 25th to 28th. Other phases involve lane closures and detours, with work on northbound and southbound lanes anticipated in September.
