As the threat of natural disasters like wildfires and earthquakes loom over rural communities, those in Ramona are being offered a unique opportunity to stay informed and ready for such emergencies. The Emergency Preparedness Resource Fair and Discussion will be held at the Ramona Library on Saturday, August 19. The event, hosted by the County’s Live Well San Diego Rural Communities Sector, will bring together various experts to provide much-needed information about emergency preparedness for those living in rural areas.
Starting at 12:30 p.m., the free event will feature a resource fair, where attendees can visit various booths, pick up free emergency gift bags (while supplies last), and experience a fire extinguisher demonstration courtesy of the County’s Community Emergency Response Team. The panel discussion is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., offering insights on how to prepare now before an emergency hits, and the types of disasters to prepare for, especially in the county’s rural areas. According to the County News Center, other topics will include how to stay safe and healthy during an evacuation, the importance of an evacuation route, how to make an emergency preparedness kit, and ways to stay connected to the latest information from the County during an emergency.
For those unable to attend in person, the event offers a Zoom registration option, ensuring that everyone gets the chance to learn from these experts. Furthermore, the fair will include a visit by the County’s Live Well on Wheels mobile office, providing services and resources such as CalFresh signup, immunization information, healthcare handouts, giveaways, and kids’ activities.
Participants can also expect to meet local law enforcement representatives like Ramona and Julian Sheriff's Substation deputies and Crime Prevention Specialists. As mentioned in the San Diego County Sheriff's Department website, attendees will have the opportunity to interact with community organizations focused on emergency preparedness for rural communities and even tour emergency vehicles on-site.
