Early morning today, a Santa Rosa Police Officer performed a routine traffic stop that led to the seizure of another firearm from the city streets. According to a police department post, a Silver Ford Explorer was stopped at 440 Hearn Avenue due to a minor traffic violation. During the stop, the officer observed illegal narcotics paraphernalia within the vehicle, prompting further investigation.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded .22 caliber Taurus handgun with a threaded barrel and attached compensator, an object illegal for the driver, Jesus Corrales-Avilez, to possess due to his self-admitted narcotic addiction. Corrales-Avilez was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail on multiple charges, including felon in possession of a loaded firearm not by registered owner, carry a loaded firearm in public place, carry a concealed weapon in a vehicle, felon/addict in possession of a firearm, possession of controlled substance paraphernalia, and possession of an assault weapon.
The arresting officer and their backup have confiscated a total of 15 firearms from various investigations since January.
