Hayward, California experienced an incident yesterday night, when officers responded to reports of a shooting near the 900 block of W. Tennyson Road, according to a press release by the Hayward Police Department. Tragically, the shooting claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy and left a 37-year-old man with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police were alerted to the situation at approximately 10:25 P.M. and arrived on scene to find two shooting victims. Medical personnel attempted to aid the young male victim, who was a resident of Hayward. Despite their efforts, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene, making this Hayward's sixth homicide of 2023.
The second victim, a 37-year-old man also residing in Hayward, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening. Details about the identities of the victims have not been released at this time, as the investigation is ongoing.
At the moment, there is no one in custody for this tragic incident. The Hayward Police Department is actively investigating the matter, with Detective Purnell leading the case.
