New Life For Historic Hayward Pub as Local Entrepreneurs Revitalize the NeighborhoodGoogle Maps

As of August 9, 2023, the iconic Buffalo Bill's Brewery will throw open its doors once again, following a challenging stretch caused by the COVID-19 pandemic according to CBS News.

Founded in 1983 by home brewer and freelance photographer Bill Owens, Buffalo Bill's holds the honor of being America's first brew pub. It closed its doors in June 2022, but is now set to reopen under the stewardship of Alejandro Gamarra, the new owner, who's invested in restoring the historic establishment and maintaining its unique character. Gamarra already has strong roots in the local business community with ownership of five restaurants, including Casa Del Toro and the local taqueria chain Metro Taqueros.

Gamarra is not the only entrepreneur breathing new life into Hayward; he's joined by a diverse group of local business owners keen to create a vibrant community space. "As a landmark that once marked a bustling downtown, it's a privilege to revitalize the area with my fellow Latino entrepreneurs," Gamarra said to CBS News.

To retain the authentic Buffalo Bill's experience, Gamarra has rehired the pub's previous master brewer of 15 years, Mike Manty. Gamarra's commitment to maintain the traditional craft beer offerings goes hand in hand with his desire to incorporate Latin American flavors, such as Mexican-style Vienna lagers and tamarind-infused brews, which will complement, not replace, the core lineup of beers.

For patrons eager to indulge in Buffalo Bill's famous fare, Gamarra has also rehired their longtime chef, Hector Ortiz. Guests can look forward to hot sandwiches, salads, burgers, and popular appetizers like jalapeño poppers with cotija cheese, plus a range of pizza options. It's clear that this historic brew pub truly embodies the passion and camaraderie of Hayward's diverse community.
