In a tragedy that unfolded near the Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal, a floundering boat spat four men into the merciless clutches of the San Francisco Bay, leaving one man dead and three others fighting for their lives. The debacle transpired on Sunday afternoon, and local Alameda authorities responded swiftly to orchestrate a rescue operation.
The unfortunate man, discovered in cardiac arrest on the shore, was retrieved by a brave bystander who leapt into the water and hauled him to safety. Alameda Police officers were then promptly on the scene, administering CPR before Alameda City Fire Department rescue crews initiated lifesaving measures, as reported by Alameda City Fire Department on their Facebook page. Despite the rigorous efforts by all involved, the man was pronounced dead at Alameda Hospital later that Sunday.
The remaining men kept floating between 100 feet to several hundred yards from the shoreline.
The Alameda Fire Department dove into action, sending seven of its rescue swimmers, armed with ten-foot-long surfboards, plunging into the bay. In an operationto locate and extract the remaining victims, bringing them ashore to a relieved crowd.
