Oakland PD Makes Arrest in Homicide Case of Jerald ClarkGoogle Maps

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) announced the arrest of Amadi Monroe for the homicide of Jerald Clark, a testament to the tireless efforts and collaboration among various units within the department. The fatal shooting took place on August 8, 2023, in the 500 block of 25th Street. The Alameda County District Attorney's Office has charged Monroe with murder and being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm, according to a tweet by OPD.

Through such collaborative efforts involving the OPD Homicide Investigators, Tactical Operations Team, Intelligence Unit, Violent Crimes Operation Center (VCOC), and Ceasefire, the suspect was safely apprehended.

The OPD's Communications Division received reports of the shooting just after 9:00 PM on August 8, 2023. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found an adult male – later identified as Oakland resident Jerald Clark – with gunshot wounds. Medical personnel rushed him to a local hospital, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead.

As reported by the OPD, investigators from their Homicide Section took over the investigation immediately and began gathering information to piece together the circumstances surrounding Clark's death.

At the heart of this success is the collaboration between numerous specialized units within the department. One example is the Ceasefire program, which strives to reduce gun violence by focusing on the most violent groups and individuals, offering them support and resources to find alternative paths, while also emphasizing that continued violence will face relentless enforcement by the OPD. Similarly, the VCOC focuses on identifying, investigating, and apprehending violent criminals, often working closely with analysts to gather and disseminate intelligence on crime trends and suspects.

The teamwork displayed by the OPD in this investigation, and in many others, is an important component in improving public safety.
