This morning, the quiet town of Maynard transformed into a scene right out of a Hollywood action film, as an organized group of car thieves left a trail of stolen cars and attempted to elude pursuing police officers. Authorities are now requesting the public's assistance in locating these individuals and putting an end to their operation.

According to a Boston 25 News report, Maynard Police received reports at around 3:30 a.m. of several individuals breaking into and stealing cars from a used car dealership on Acton Street near Christmas Motors. When officers arrived on the scene, they found several cars blocking the road and more vehicles leaving the area around Acton and Brown Streets.

A different WHDH report revealed that the police attempted to pull over one of the stolen vehicles which was driving the wrong way on Main Street, resulting in a high-speed pursuit ultimately ending in a serious car crash. As per the security camera footage shared by Maynard Police, the suspect fled on foot shortly after the crash, narrowly escaping capture.

Even though other area law enforcement agencies and state police joined the search for the suspects, the pursuit was cut short due to unfavorable weather conditions. The Boston Globe cited a preliminary investigation that revealed eight to ten suspects who arrived in Maynard with five vehicles stolen from other towns, such as Leominster and Sudbury. Several of these stolen vehicles have been recovered, but at least two others remain missing.

While it is not unusual for towns and cities to face instances of crime, the turmoil brought on by the organized theft ring raises new concerns for the community. In an interview with WHDH, local resident Estuardo Salgureo expressed his surprise with the events, saying, "I can walk my dogs in the middle of the night," and, "I've never seen anything like that before.” In the midst of these startling incidents, the tranquility of the town has undoubtedly suffered a blow.

The Maynard Police Department has turned to the public in hopes of gathering additional evidence, asking anyone who may have ring camera footage during the time of the crimes to contact them.
