Local Danville businesses are finding solace in a supportive grant program which has proven invaluable throughout the years. The Danville Town Council recently approved the continuation of this program, as Tuesday. Local brick and mortar businesses and organizations are being encouraged to apply for reimbursement grants of up to $5,000, aimed to finance collaborative events and projects that support the growth of small businesses and foster community engagement.
Funded by the Business Promotion Program, the grant program has allocated $25,000 in total for the fiscal year 2023-24. The purpose of this financial backing is to encourage local spending habits, bolstering the community slogan of “shop local” by supporting multiple businesses collaborating on a single event or project. Allowing these businesses to flourish simultaneously, the program plays a vital role in sustaining the livelihood of Danville’s economy and its small-town charm.
Grants awarded in the 2022-23 fiscal year included such events as the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce Sip & Stroll, the Museum of the San Ramon Valley Shops and Hops, and the Danville Lions Club Restaurant Walk, among others. These events not only provide a platform for mutual business growth, but they also foster a sense of unity and camaraderie among community members who gather together to enjoy this collective local experience.
Applications are currently being processed, with the intention of funding events and projects occurring between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024. The Town has made its priorities for supporting these events clear in its official requirements: they must encourage collaboration among multiple businesses, engage consumers with experiential events and widespread promotional opportunities, promote events that directly drive business or cooperative marketing programs via print and digital mediums, and incorporate the “Live Locally” branding throughout all marketing initiatives.
Having established its importance in the past, the Danville grant program addresses a few key components that guide its successful implementation. Utilization of funds for marketing, technology, and specific event costs are all eligible expenses for reimbursement. By design, businesses and organizations can obtain reimbursement only after expenditures have already been incurred, a strategic approach to maintaining accountability and ensuring that funds are allocated wisely.
