A man was run over and tragically killed by a trash truck in downtown San Diego according to 10News. This devastating accident occurred near the intersection of Sixth Avenue and C Street, close to the Fifth Avenue trolley station.
The San Diego Police Department reported that the victim, a man estimated to be between 30 and 40 years of age, had crawled from the west sidewalk of 1000 6th Avenue into the roadway for unknown reasons. A trash truck was simultaneously heading southbound on the same street, eventually running over the pedestrian as 10News noted. Despite efforts to save his life, he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Due to the highly unfortunate timing of the driver's arrival, a 59-year-old man operating the private trash truck, he did not see the victim lying in the street in time to avoid the collision as reported by the Times of San Diego. Immediately following the incident, southbound Sixth Avenue at B Street was closed for several hours as the San Diego Police traffic investigators worked diligently to uncover the factors that led to this unfathomable event.
