Man on Scooter Killed in Accident in Fairfield

According to a Facebook announcement by the Fairfield Police Department, at approximately 10:43 pm, a male pedestrian yesterday riding a motor scooter was crossing the intersection of Travis Boulevard and Clay Street when he was struck by a vehicle.

The unidentified man succumbed to his injuries, declared deceased at the scene by Fairfield Fire paramedics. Family members have yet to be notified.

The driver of the vehicle, 60-year-old Willie Weaver, was subjected to an examination by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) and subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. He now faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter.
