A tragedy unfolded last week when an East Village resident, 38-year-old Andrew Phillip Holland, was stabbed in his home, resulting in his death, according to San Diego Deputy District Attorney Miriam Hurtado during an arraignment.
The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that the accused assailant, Maxwell Logan, 25, has pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include murder, using a knife in the attack, and false imprisonment. It was allegedly a seemingly normal evening, and Holland was in his kitchen looking through his mail when the unexpected attack occurred.
Logan’s girlfriend locked herself in a bedroom in their apartment the same night, as prosecutors noted. NBC San Diego reported that Logan had threatened her and her pets and restrained her to the room.
Police had been called to the scene on 14th Street, between G and Market streets, when Holland's body was found with as many as 40 to 50 stab wounds to his head and torso, according to the U-T.
Interestingly, the night before the murder, two other women living at the apartment complex had reported suspicious incidents involving a man matching Logan’s description, one of whom was physically assaulted without provocation per the 10 News report.
Investigators are currently attempting to piece together any connections between Logan and the other incidents, and they have urged the public to come forward with any information they have that could help in their pursuit of the truth, as expressed in the NBC San Diego article.
However, at this stage of the investigation, there appears to be no clear connection between the two men, and the attack on Holland is believed to have been unprovoked and random.
