Timing couldn't be more unfortunate for Marlenytatia Penaarias, who turns 23 today, as she was arrested along with 33-year-old Deana Martinez on August 9, 2023, for a series of crimes including robbery and grand theft in Oakland, according to a tweet from KTVU reporter Henry Lee. The duo are alleged to have stolen construction tools from a truck at gunpoint before leading Alameda County Sheriff's Office deputies on a high-speed chase on I-580 in a stolen Kia SUV.
Both Martinez and Penaarias are now in custody at Santa Rita Jail with bail set at $165,000 and $42,500, respectively, as shown in their inmate records. Charges against them include robbery, carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a stolen vehicle, and evading the police, among others. Martinez is also charged with possession of a controlled substance and unlawful paraphernalia.
It was a crime spree that forced law enforcement to act swiftly, quickly apprehending the suspects as they drove at breakneck speeds to evade justice.
The Alameda County District Attorney's Office has reportedly filed charges against the pair. Martinez and Penaarias will face their arraignment at Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse on August 14, 2023, as noted in the booking information on the Alameda County Sheriff's Office website. With such serious charges laid against them, the duo may be looking at a lengthy legal battle and severe consequences if found guilty.
