A 21-year-old man navigating the sidewalks of Chicago's River North neighborhood faced an abrupt and violent disruption earlier today. Allegedly fired upon from a silver Dodge pickup truck, the young man suffered a gunshot wound to his leg. According to Chicago Tribune, the incident took place at around 2:47 a.m. on the 600 block of North State Street.
Swiftly transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital by the Chicago Fire Department, the victim is fortunately reported to be in good condition. Yet, the seeming randomness of the attack, coincided with the recent opening of Bally's Chicago casino in the historic Medinah Temple.
Launched only a couple of days prior, the new casino brings the thrill of gambling to the Windy City, offering patrons the opportunity to try their luck daily from 8 a.m. to 4 a.m. For a city that has spent years grappling with the decision to build a gambling hub, the launch marks a significant moment in history.
As the investigation continues, no arrests have been made thus far.
