It has been nearly two weeks since convicted murderer Danelo Cavalcante escaped from Chester County Prison in Pennsylvania, and the manhunt for the fugitive is growing in intensity. CBS News reported a $5,000 increase in the reward offered for information leading to Cavalcante's capture, bringing the total to $25,000.

Residents in the area have been living in fear as the search for Cavalcante continues. A change in the search area to northern Chester County has led to a doubling of manpower. Now, approximately 600 people are reportedly involved in the pursuit of the 34-year-old escaped convict, who was serving a life sentence for the fatal stabbing of his ex-girlfriend, as stated by NBC News.

According to law enforcement, Cavalcante was possibly able to break through their perimeter by utilizing an underground tunnel or drainage ditch. Over the weekend, he was spotted in the Phoenixville area of northern Chester County. He changed his appearance, sporting a clean-shaven look and wearing a green hoodie, and was reportedly trying to seek help from two former coworkers. However, authorities believe he has since left the Phoenixville area. There's no indication Cavalcante has left Pennsylvania, but the search is prepared to go nationwide if necessary.

The ongoing search has had a significant impact on the community, with some schools moving outdoor activities indoors as a safety measure. Neighbors are understandably nervous, wondering when the hunt for Cavalcante will come to an end. Tammy Korczynski, a local resident, described the situation as "difficult" and said, "it's even more difficult now that it's in our backyard and really, we're not surprised because this is where he's familiar."

Surveillance video captured his daring break from the prison, which involved stretching himself across the exercise yard walls before climbing to the roof. A prison guard on duty at the time of Cavalcante's escape was subsequently fired for violating prison policy by having a cellphone in the tower, according to NBC News.

Meanwhile, Cavalcante's sister has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and entered into deportation proceedings, after being deemed an "overstay" and choosing not to assist in her brother's capture, as per CBS News. Law enforcement officials have made it clear that anyone found aiding Cavalcante will be prosecuted.

As the reward for information leading to his capture climbs to $25,000, Cavalcante's continued evasion of authorities has left both the local community and law enforcement anxious – but determined to bring him to justice.
