On Saturday, September 16, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) released a statement acknowledging charges against 37-year-old Steven Goodman with first-degree murder and solicitation for hire. The victim was Deshawnay Yoakum, a young woman who had her 18th birthday after allegedly being severely injured by the accused.
The CPD reported that Goodman was arrested on Thursday, September 14th, in Bedford Park after being identified as the perpetrator of the 18-year-old's murder earlier this year.
The crime was committed on March 1, 2023, when the victim was only 17, in the 4500 block of S. Drexel, and the young woman succumbed to her injuries days later.
As the investigation continues, details surrounding the victim's life and the motive behind the crime remain largely unknown as of now.
Goodman is set to appear in Central Bond Court on September 17, 2023, where adjudicators will begin to unravel the chilling story only now being unearthed.
