In the corner of Charlestown, an incident last night drew attention as officers recovered a firearm during a traffic stop resulting in the arrest of David Riley, an 18-year-old resident of Charlestown, according to a Boston Police Department release.
On Sunday, September 24, at around 9:45 pm, officers from the Downtown Anti-Crime Unit were conducting a patrol in the vicinity of 140 Main Street. During their rounds, they noticed a vehicle similar to the description of one involved in a previous shooting incident where 14 rounds had been fired. Relying on their memory of the incident and the vehicle, the officers carried out a traffic stop and came face to face with the suspect.
Upon further investigation, the officers issued an exit order to the suspect, leading to a frisk of the vehicle that uncovered a black semi-automatic firearm hidden under the driver's seat. The weapon was later identified as a 9mm Polymer 80 firearm with a light attachment, lacking a serial number, with one round in the chamber, and a magazine loaded with 13 rounds of 9mm ammunition as stated in the police report.
Riley now faces charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Possession of Ammunition without a License. His arraignment is scheduled at Charlestown District Court.
